Mega Bloks - Smurfs

Prediction: Mega Bloks will sell out of these when the movie opens.

Mega Bloks will of course always be far inferior to Lego, but their Smurf sets are as cool as anything I've seen from the Danish Gods in a long time.

Blokus & Architecto

These two games caught my attention today. Both feeding my addiction to block building, the game mechanics are right up my alley. Blokus looks like something I'll pretty much have to purchase, and of course I now notice they have an app which I will own in five minutes.

More Monopoly Gamepieces

Back in September 2010 I wrote about game pieces as toys, and highlighted Monopoly objects from various collectors sets.

This is a followup post showcasing two more sets.

Rory's Story Cubes

Came across this today in Barnes & Noble and think it's a pretty great game/toy/idea.

Roll the dice with pictures and then tell a story using the pictures. The math behind this is pretty simple and it tells us that there are millions of combinations, so you'll rarely, if ever, get the same one resulting in a new story every time.

They also have an app, and an expansion pack with another set of dice. See this stuff on their site.

Adventure Boardgames

Came across a cache of these games today in Barnes & Noble. I haven't played any of them, so I can't comment, but the aesthetics are clearly....so hot right now. Here are a few links if you want to read about them: Settlers of Catan, Wow Boardgame, Don Quixote, Civ Boardgame. Lastly, perhaps the most popular of these types of games is one I didn't see on the shelves today, Puerto Rico.
